Penistone is a traditional Pennine Yorkshire Market Town situated between the urban areas of Sheffield and Barnsley.

The campaign to register the town as a Fairtrade Town was begun in January 2005 by the Penistone & District Community Partnership, and finally achieved status of Fairtrade Town in February 2007.

The campaign has drawn support from Penistone Town Council and from Churches, Schools, Community groups and Local Businesses.

There is an active committee who organise events throughout the year with the aim of raising awareness of fair trade issues and making Traidcraft goods available for sale.

OUR AIMS:

To promote the concept of Fairtrade and the issues surrounding it to Penistone and its surrounding areas.

To raise awareness of the Fairtrade mark.

To campaign to register and maintain Penistone as a Fairtrade town, as identified by the Fairtrade Foundation.

To increase the use and availability of Fairtrade products in Penistone.
